The Wedgwood Museum are delighted to announce the winners of the Wedgwood Museum Trust, 'Blue' competition, 2009. All eight winners have been selected to be part of the Wedgwood permanent collection of contemporary artists.
This annual initiative challenges students at the University of Wolverhampton's Faculty of Art and Design to be inspired by the Wedgwood Museum's internationally-important collection and to create their own pieces that respond to a brief set by the Museum Trust. This ongoing project gives young craftspeople the opportunity to be represented in one of the world's premium ceramic museums and can prove a tremendous boost to their careers. Many of the selected pieces are already on display in the museum galleries.
As well as the esteemed panel of judges, including internationally-renowned artist, Andrew Logan, this year saw the inauguration of the first People's Prize - where a student's work was chosen by members of the public visiting the museum as being worthy of inclusion in our collection.
This year's selected students are:
Winner - Matt Marsh (ceramics)
Andrew Logan Prize - Michelle Taylor (ceramics)
People's Prize - Rebecca Turbin (glass)
Highly Commended work chosen by the judging panel:
William Pryde (glass)
Matthew Bate (glass)
Rebecca Watson (glass)
Helen Prendergast (glass)
Sharon Webber (textiles)
