Epergne or Grand Plat Menage is a large creamware centrepiece. It has two tiers of hanging pierced sweetmeat baskets and sugar containers.Objects of this kind are very rare. In the 1780s and 90s very elaborate examples were produced. This earlier eaxample from 1770-75 of a pierced sweetmeat basket would have hung from an epergne.
