This small, but ornate, bulb pot was produced to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of George III in 1810. It is decorated with an orange ground, print and enamel ‘famille-rose’ style flowers, and the head of the monarch, together with the star and badge of the Order of the Garter.

George III and his wife Queen Charlotte Sophia of Mecklenburgh-Strelilitz were long standing patrons of the first Josiah and the business he founded. The Wedgwood factory had, over the years, issued a number of commemoratives featuring the royal couple for general sale. The 1789 ‘Health Restored’ medallions celebrating the king’s return to sanity following a bout of apparent madness, he suffered from porphyria, were particularly popular. Sadly the king lapsed into a further deranged state from which he never recovered - this did not stop the celebrations for his Golden Jubilee however, and the Etruria factory produced services in white ware decorated with a printed orange ground, and outline prints of the head of the monarch, the star and badge of the Order of the Garter, and ‘famille-rose’ print and enamel style flowers. An additional item produced to mark the occasion was this small but ornate bulb pot
