A small wheel, the circumference of which is cut or moulded with a pattern. When the wheel is held against the unfired clay the decorative pattern is impressed into the object. Wedgwood used this technique for impressing, lines, beads and other decorative motifs especially on his early cream-coloured earthenware vases.
