White jasper, pale blue dip, white relief figure depicting, ‘Hope & Anchor’. Integral moulded frame. Blistered and bubbled appearance to upper surface of the medallion.

It took Josiah Wedgwood I in excess of four years in order to perfect his new stoneware body which he was to name ‘Jasper’. Many of the early ‘trials’ exhibit blistering, bubbling and warping, showing the technical difficulties which needed to be overcome in order for Wedgwood to perfect his new ceramic body.
