Poor Maria

Wedgwood's bas reliefs of Poor Maria and the Bourbonnais Shepherd were both modelled by William Hackwood after designs by Lady Templetown in 1783. The characters both appear in Laurence Sterne's 'Sentimental Journey through France and Italy'. The cameos were often used inset into buckles or jewellery with cut steel or ormolu mounts.
