Cecil Wedgwood (1863-1916)

The only son of Godfrey Wedgwood, Cecil was nicknamed 'The Viking'. He was a partner at Etruria from 1884. Both Cecil and Francis Hamilton fought in the Boer War, Cecil being awarded the DSO in 1902. After their return from South Africa the business needed revitalising and Cecil was part of the team which revived the company's fortunes. He was first lord mayor of Stoke-on-Trent in 1910-11 after the federation of the six towns. Cecil was killed in World War I, leading his regiment, 'The Potters'.
