Josiah Wedgwood III (1795-1880)

Known as 'Joe', he was the eldest son of Josiah II. There is little real evidence to show he had any keen interest in the family business, but he was nonetheless given a thorough training in factory production and processes. In 1823 Josiah II took him into partnership, and four years later they were joined by Francis. In 1842 'Joe' resigned his partnership and settled at a 400 acre estate, Leith Hill Place in Surrey.
