Thomas Whieldon (1719-95)

Master potter, and from 1740 a pioneer of English pottery production at Fenton, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire. From 1754-9 he took Josiah Wedgwood I into partnership, and it was at this time that Wedgwood's Experiments Book was begun. The introduction states: 'This suite of Experiments was begun at Fenton Hall, in the Parish of Stoke-on-Trent…. In my partnership with Mr Whieldon.' Ceramic wares of fruit and vegetable forms are often associated with this Whieldon-Wedgwood partnership period of production.
