John Sadler (1720-89)

Transfer printer, and a partner in the Liverpool based firm of Sadler and Green. Sadler is said to have invented the technique of transfer printing on earthenware. Josiah Wedgwood used Sadler and Green from 1761 to decorate his cream coloured earthenware body. Sadler withdrew from the partnership in 1770, and Josiah Wedgwood continued the association with Guy Green at least until 1795.
