Doris Audrey Wedgwood (1894-1969)

Second daughter of Cecil Wedgwood, Audrey was largely responsible for keeping the factory going during the First World War (when the directors were overseas on active service), learning about each department in turn from the mill and sliphouse upwards. In 1918 she was made Company Secretary – quite an accolade for a woman at this time. She went on to marry Captain Geoffrey Makeig-Jones, the brother of the designer Daisy Makeig-Jones.
