Margaret Vaughan Williams (née Wedgwood) (1843-97)

The middle of three daughters born to Josiah III ('Joe') and Caroline Wedgwood, Margaret lived at Leith Hill Place, Surrey, until she married the Rev Arthur Vaughan Williams. They lived at Down Ampney, Gloucestershire, where Margaret gave birth to the eminent composer and folk-song collector, Ralph Vaughan Williams in 1872. When Arthur died in 1875, his widow and children moved back to Margaret’s former family home at Leith Hill Place.

Margaret inherited a copy of the Portland Vase, which Ralph later bequeathed to the Wedgwood Museum.
